Speed Test

Test your current internet speed and see how Prentiss Connect fiber compares.

What the numbers mean

Download speed

How fast data arrives at your devices. Affects streaming quality, page-load times, and file downloads. Measured in Mbps.

Upload speed

How fast you send data out. Critical for video calls, cloud backups, and social uploads. Fiber is symmetrical — upload equals download.

Latency / ping

Round-trip time for a packet. Lower is better. Fiber typically delivers 30 ms or less — ideal for gaming and real-time collaboration.

Jitter

Variation in latency over time. High jitter causes choppy calls even at fast speeds. Stable, low jitter is what makes fiber feel smooth.

Plan and test guidance

Roughly what you need

  • HD streaming (per device): 5–10 Mbps
  • 4K streaming (per device): 25 Mbps
  • HD video calls: 3–6 Mbps up & down
  • Cloud backups & uploads: more upload is better — fiber is symmetric
  • Online gaming: latency and jitter matter more than raw Mbps

Tips for an accurate test

  • Plug directly into the router with an Ethernet cable.
  • Close other apps and pause other devices on the network.
  • Run the test more than once and at different times of day.
  • Wi-Fi will be slower than wired — that is normal, not a service issue.
