Network Management Policy

How we manage our fiber network to deliver a great experience for all subscribers.

This Network Management Policy describes how Prentiss Connect manages its fiber network. We are committed to providing an open, transparent broadband service in compliance with FCC Open Internet rules.

Overview

Prentiss Connect operates a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network serving Prentiss County, Mississippi. We use network management practices only to the extent reasonably necessary to provide a good experience for all subscribers and to maintain network security and integrity.

Congestion Management

Our fiber network is designed with sufficient capacity to minimize congestion. In the rare event of localized congestion, our equipment automatically prioritizes interactive traffic (DNS, web browsing, VoIP) to maintain a responsive experience for all users. We do not throttle or prioritize traffic based on content, application, or the identity of the user.

Application-Specific Practices

Prentiss Connect does not block lawful content, applications, services, or devices. We do not throttle, degrade, or impair specific applications or classes of applications. We do not engage in paid prioritization.

Security Practices

To protect our network and customers, we may:

  • Block traffic from known malicious IP addresses and malware command-and-control servers
  • Rate-limit or temporarily suspend accounts that generate traffic consistent with distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks
  • Filter inbound TCP port 25 (SMTP) to reduce spam relay — outbound port 587 (submission) is unrestricted

These measures are applied consistently, without regard to the source or content of non-malicious traffic.

Performance Characteristics

Our fiber service delivers symmetrical speeds — upload equals download. Typical latency to the internet backbone is 5–15 ms. Packet loss on our managed network is less than 0.1% under normal conditions. Detailed service-level information is available on the Rates page and the Broadband Label posted for each plan.

Device Attachment

You may attach any lawful device to your Prentiss Connect service. We recommend using a router with current firmware to protect your home network. PCEPA is not responsible for security vulnerabilities introduced by customer-owned devices.
